Texas Polygamist Case Update: FDLS in the News
Finally we have an update on the Texas Polygamist case that may have slipped the minds of many by now since it began all the way back in April. As a quick refresher, the government went into a FLDS sect with high suspicion but little evidence, and took 460 children that they had a hunch were being abused.
Turns out whether or not the children were being abused doesn’t really come into play if you don’t have sufficient evidence, which as we just went over, the police did not, so they began slowly making plans and agreements with the parents to allow some of the children to go back home.
The latest news that we have is that an additional 54 children have been dropped from supervision by the state, bringing the total number of children to have been deemed not in danger of being abused to 250.
Now I am all about protecting the children and whatnot, however, 250 is a pretty large margin of error, don’t you think? That is a whole lot of suspicion gone wrong in my little book.
The FDLS, incidently, is also in the news for filing an 8.8 million dollar lawsuit in Utah, asking the court to set aside a judgement from 2007 claiming that:
the judgment was entered based upon false, incomplete, and misleading evidence [the] defendant presented at a hearing on March 1, 2007.-sltrib.com
While the church argues that the 8.8 million is being used to destroy the church by taking away it's property, and that the church has been pushed beyond it's breaking point, those whom it has pointed its fingers upon have responded with an attitude of suck it up and get over it and stand firmly in their belief that the judgment was reached fairly.
