Happy Seventieth Birthday Fostermommy

Shhhhh...Fostermommy is turning 70 this year (2010) in May. We are hoping she doesn’t come across this blog anytime soon and there is a good chance she won’t. Towards the end of summer 2009, her agency gave her three new placements. She is currently parenting three teenage girls and one seven year old boy. This is her first boy, and her first elementary placement in over a decade of fostering. Needless to say, she is one busy fostermommy. Between IEPs, sick runs, nightmares, homework help, rocking her new “baby” and a chronic teen runaway (boy crazy), she has not had much spare time to browse. The only way we are getting blogs from her is by having her email them to us occasionally, then one of us post it for her. That is why we are taking this opportunity to invite you to help fostermommy celebrate her 70th birthday.

To honor fostermommy and show appreciation for over a decade of accepting teenage girls, most directly from residential, or broken adoptions, we are asking you to shower her with cards and notes. Once girls arrive at her home, all but two have stayed until after graduation. Then they keep calling and coming back for visits still calling her grandma. Her oldest girls are now 23.

Please send cards wishing her Happy 70th. Include a note about your worst or best foster care experience, or how sharing her experiences has touched you, helped you, or encouraged you in some way. Fostermommy has devoted her life to helping others. Prior to becoming a licensed foster parent, she owned, operated, and provided direct care for the elderly and mentally impaired for over two decades as a licensed adult foster care provider.

As we hit these later milestones in life, many of our dear friends start to pass away, leaving us lonely. Granted fostermommy has 4 children at home, five Siamese, two Bengal cats, and a Shi Tzu who thinks she is one of the children, but she has lost several dear friends over the past year. Consider helping us celebrate with her.

Send cards and notes of encouragement to Fostermommy at:

Wow. They have come a long way. I think have like this is great because they are able to help two people - the child and the parents who badly need one another. So continue doing what you are doing because you are giving joy and happiness to the family. I think we've all heard people joke that a person should be qualified before they're allowed to have children,
