Our Guestblogger is Marjorie Shaw, an adoptee in a closed domestic adoption. You can read Marjorie's novel in chapters on our website each Monday and Friday.

“Someday, I’m going to write a book about all of this. This way, I don’t have to keep explaining over and over how an adopted person feels their entire life living with secrets and no information about where they came from,” quotes Anne Bauer from her memoir “The Sound of Hope: A True Story of an Adoptee’s Quest for Her Origins.”

Anne is an adoptee from a closed adoption in the 60’s. Her search for her natural mother leads the reader deep into the complicated and chaotic world of her adoptive family and their reaction to truths she was never supposed to address. She writes so well about the accepting and rejecting reactions of her two mothers, her adoptive family members and her dilemma as the adoptee who is put in the middle when she reveals to her adoptive mother and father that she has found her natural mother. It is so refreshing to hear the strength and conviction she possesses as she fights to create sanity in her world by getting them to realize that they need to all come together for her sake and leave their jealousy behind!

Her quest for the truth prevails as the people in her life create a maze of guilt and madness trying to control her which almost tears her apart. She sails through it all as she takes the reader into the complicated world of search and reunion.

This book takes a good look from Anne’s point of view of her adoptive parents and relatives and natural mother and relatives as they are forced to come to terms with her search and reunion. There is even a surprise ending. It’s the first book I have ever read that really tells it like it is. I give this book two thumbs up.
