Not So Funny Adoption Shirt
![]() | Nobody Likes You & You're Adopted Men's Sweat Shirt in 2 colors Small thru 3XL rating: ![]() asin: B000ZY19WO binding: Apparel |
I was strolling through Amazon.com this afternoon, looking for a book that could perhaps help with some of the issues that we are having with my oldest son, when I came across this shirt. I suppose that it was meant to be funny, that it is supposed to be a joke, yet it hasn’t conjured up so much as a chuckle for me.
Normally I am the first one to tell others not to get riled up over products like this. I am usually the one defending freedom of speech, and saying how we need to lighten up and not take everything so seriously, but this shirt just really rubs me the wrong way. Perhaps it is the mood that I have been in lately, I don’t know but I just don’t find the shirt funny at all, I find it offensive. I can only imagine the young children that will see this shirt as they walk through a mall, feeling like even more of an outsider and compounding their adoption and identity issues.
I would assume that this is geared toward the teenager market, but as a parent whom is currently raising an adopted teen, I can assure you that he would not find it funny either. He has enough adoption related issues, and something like this would definitely be a trigger for him.
Am I the only one who is missing the humor that is supposed to be apparent in this shirt?

Another shirt for that manufacturer

No, it really isn't
No, it really isn't funny.
And it irks me when shows make all sorts of casual remarks that are supposed to be funny but they are not.
Like in some episode of Two and a Half-men some character was singing about saving the orphans and saying things like, "get them while they're still cute."
Sometimes things are half-funny, but that wasn't that funny at all.
Or some episode where a pair of gay doods adopted a Chinese kid and he played the cello.
I guess show writers and t-shirt makers think stuff like that is amusing, but, well...
and I have an odd sense of humor too.
