Family (c) Lynda BernhardtDaniel … its meaning is " God is my judge" - Think Baby Names

The baby name Daniel is of Hebrew origin. Daniel is the prophet who was thrown in the lion’s den for continuing to pray to God in violation of the king’s edict. God sealed the mouths of the lions, so Daniel was still alive the next morning, much to the king’s relief. You can read about Daniel’s life in the Book of Daniel.

The baby name Daniel had been a wildly popular name for the last 100 years. Since 1908, the lowest ranking that the baby name Daniel has reached is #55 back in 1914-1916.The baby name has remained in the Top 12 since 1973. In 2007, the baby name Daniel ranked #5, which is the highest the baby name has ever ranked (tying with its ranking in 1985 and 1990). See Popular Baby Names.

Family (c) Lynda BernhardtEthan … its meaning is " firmness, steadfastness, constancy" - Think Baby Names

The baby name Ethan is of Hebrew origin. According to Think Baby Names, the name Ethan comes from the name Eitan, who was “a man of Israel noted for his wisdom.” However, according to BibleGateway.com, the name “Eitan” does not appear in the Bible. So, perhaps the story of Eitan was passed down through tradition rather than through the Bible??

Regardless, Ethan does have Hebrew roots, which makes it a good name for both Jewish and Christian adoptive families. The meaning of “firmness, steadfastness, and constancy” is a good one for families that grow through adoption because so much “steadfastness” is required to make it through the adoption process.

The baby name Ethan is a Top Ten baby name.

The baby name Michael is of Hebrew origin. In the Bible, Michael is the archangel who will fight against the “dragon” (against evil) in the end times. Michael is one of the few angels whose name is revealed in the Bible. You can read about the angel Michael in Jude 1:9 and Revelation 12:7.

The baby name Michael has been one of the most popular names in the United States for the last 100 years! In fact, the lowest ranking that the baby name Michael has had in the last 100 years was at #56 back in 1926. Talk about staying power!

The statistics continue to be impressive. The baby name Michael has ranked as either #1 or #2 in every year since 1954! I had no idea that Michael was that popular of a name! See Popular Baby Names for more statistics on the baby name Michael.

Baby on bus (c) Lynda BernhardtNaomi … its meaning is "pleasant" - Think Baby Names

The baby name Naomi has been steadily growing in popularity over the last 15 years, moving from #240 in 1993 to #124 in 2007. See Popular Baby Names. A friend of mine has a daughter named Naomi. It is really cute when her little friends call her “Omi” because they cannot pronounced the whole name.

Family (c) Lynda BernhardtTimothy … its meaning is "God’s honor." - Think Baby Names

The baby name Timothy hit its peak in the United States in the 1960’s and has gradually declined in popularity, hovering in the top 100 in recent years. Timothy was the Apostle Paul’s “adopted” son because the men became so close as they spread Christianity throughout the world.

Paul referred to Timothy as “my son whom I love” (I Cor. 4:17) and “Timothy, my dear son” (II Tim. 2:1), even though the two men were not biologically related.
