Baby on bus (c) Lynda BernhardtThis time of year is always an exciting one because this is when the Social Security Administration updates its list of most popular baby names for the previous year! You can see that website here!

You don’t have to go over there to learn what baby names were most popular in 2009. Here are the Top Ten Baby Names for 2009:

Top 10 Boy Baby Names for 2009

  1. Jacob (#1 in 2008)
  2. Ethan (#3 in 2008)
  3. Michael (#2 in 2008)
  4. Alexander (#6 in 2008)
  5. William (#8 in 2008)
  6. Joshua (#4 in 2008)
  7. Daniel (#5 in 2008)
  8. Jayden (#11 in 2008)

Eight of the ten baby boy names were in the Top 10 in 2008. The newcomers into the Top 10 are Jayden and Noah. I will have to write about the baby boy name Noah because that is the only baby boy name in the Top 10 for 2009 that I have not previously covered.

The Social Security website has not yet updated its data for the top baby names in 2009, but some websites are speculating on the results. They don’t agree with one another, so I am skeptical about any of them being correct. However, it is fun to see the suggestions, so let’s take a look. What will be the Top Ten baby names for 2009?

Here are the top baby names for 2009 according BabyFirstYear. As a Gilmore Girls fan, I love numbers 5 and 7 for the baby girls’ names, but I am skeptical that this is an accurate list based upon the trends I have followed over the past few years.
