Gull Lake Conference

Adoption is an integral part of my life that is never far from my thoughts. I write about adoption daily and seven of my 10 children are adopted. Frequently, questions arise from curious strangers about my family, because there are so many of us. Instead of seeing their questions as an intrusion I usually grab these opportunities to talk about foster care and adoption. So many children in the world need forever families and of course, I am always on the look out for blog material. Even though I was vacationing with my family, I seized a few opportunities to interview people about adoption, their personal experiences, and opinions. Our vacation was at a family camp that brings in awesome speakers for the adult guest. While the adults are enjoying interactive learning with the speakers, the children are off with their counselors swimming, bungee jumping, climbing rock walls, or zipping through the air in a harness.

Well we’ve been following the Madonna story thus far, so why stop now?  Madonna was hoping for a court ruling today that would grant her a temporary adoption of Mercy James, the almost 4 year old little girl she is trying to adopt from Malawi, what she got instead, was being told to cool her heels until Friday, when the court would meet with her again.  There has been some unrest in Malawi with her latest trip, with some human rights groups labeling her as a bully, and claiming she is using her money and status to get what she wants.

The other top celebrity adoptive mom (that would be top as in public interest, not so much in parernting.  I have no knowledge of how much parenting she does, nor do I of the quality of the parenting that is done,) Angelina Jolie, and husband Brad Pitt, have let slip that they are planning to expand their family once more, only this time they would like to adopt a child from India.  They had previously filled out all of the paperwork to adopt from India, apparently, but decided to put the adoption on hold due to the many other commitments they were already facing…
