Dear Adoption Maharishi,
My husband and I have completed our home study to adopt an infant. The next step is to write a “Dear Birth Mom” letter. Should we mention infertility in the Dear Birth Mom letter?

Guest Blog: Keep Believing Your Child Will Find You

As many of my adoption friends and family know, my partner and I started on the adoption journey a little over 2 years ago. We have been scammed out of money and emotionally scammed by parents looking to "give up" their unborn child. This is the story of our adoptions and a story of fate. I read April and Jayne’s amazing adoption story on a yahoo group that I belong to and begged them to share it with Ouradopt readers. Their story helps us to remember that when the time and the child are right, our adoption will happen. It can be difficult to keep that perspective when you are the one waiting to be chosen.
Last January, after the loss of our first child place with us (her mom changed her mind and took her home and the child passed away of SIDS), Jayne and I decided that we would become foster parents and foster to adopt. A private adoption would require money that we no longer had due to our failed adoptions. We knew that fostering would take it's toll on us emotionally but we were ready for it. We began our long and frustrating road down getting our license.
It was also last January that we received a phone call that changed our lives. A co-worker called about a baby boy being put up for adoption by a family member. Nolan was born three weeks later. We love our son he is the light in our lives but we knew we had more love to give so we continued on our foster licensing quest. .

Infant Adoption and Circumcision
Who decides whether an infant being placed for adoption will be circumcised or not? The short answer is whoever has custody of the baby.
When we adopted our newborn baby boy, the social worker told us that the birth mother wanted the baby circumcised. There was never a discussion about how we felt about circumcision. If we wanted to adopt this baby, he would be placed into our home already circumcised. We probably would have requested a circumcision regardless, but we really did not have an opinion on the subject one way or the other. Quite honestly, with everything else that was going on at the time, whether or not the baby would be circumcised in the hospital didn’t even make my list of concerns.
However, there are some people, both birth parents and adoptive parents, who might feel very strongly about circumcision. For example, an Orthodox Jewish family might feel very strongly about the baby not being circumcised until he is eight days old for religious reasons. Having a two-day-old baby placed into the home already circumcised could be a very big deal to that adoptive couple.

Biblical Baby Names: Philip
Philip … its meaning is "horse lover" - Think Baby Names
It has been a while since I blogged about adoption baby names. (Sorry about that!) I haven’t decided on a new theme yet, but I wanted to get back to covering baby names. So, I decided to use Think Baby Names’ Random Baby Names Generator and see what popped up. That was kind of fun, so I might just go with a random theme for a few weeks.
The baby name Philip is of Greek origin and can also be spelled Phillip. The baby name is a Biblical name because Philip was one of the 12 apostles.
Dear Birthmom Danielle I Am Three and a Half

I am three and a half years old now, but look about five because of my height. I have inherited your athleticism. I love to dance and currently am taking ballet and tap. I have already caught up with the second year students, although this is my first year. I can’t wait until we perform this summer on stage.
My favorite activities are reading, puzzles, coloring, dressing like a princess, and dancing. Even my big brothers occasionally succumb to dancing with me when I beg.

What are the Top Baby Names for 2009?

The Social Security website has not yet updated its data for the top baby names in 2009, but some websites are speculating on the results. They don’t agree with one another, so I am skeptical about any of them being correct. However, it is fun to see the suggestions, so let’s take a look. What will be the Top Ten baby names for 2009?
Here are the top baby names for 2009 according BabyFirstYear. As a Gilmore Girls fan, I love numbers 5 and 7 for the baby girls’ names, but I am skeptical that this is an accurate list based upon the trends I have followed over the past few years.
