Gotch Day!

Today’s Guestblogger is Sherry Dittmar. She is Mom to two brothers who came home on 12-16-00 through kinship adoption; Ronnie age 12 who has special needs and Joseph age 10. Then she had a surprise biological miracle child Wyatt who is six. She has two preborn angels in Heaven. She found Kyden who was born 8-20-07 and came home 2-1-08, she is blind. Sherry also hopes to become mom to a Haitian special needs orphan someday.

I absolutely LOVE my daughter!! I have to say, God really does know what he is doing. I want to share my family’s testimony on how God has worked to build our family through adoption. At church today, we talked about God being on your side even though you wonder what is going on. I have asked, "Why God?" many times in my life.

For 8 years, my hubby and I tried to conceive with no luck. I suffer from PCOS, a common condition that causes me not to ovulate. I watched my friends and family have babies. I watched stories on TV about babies found in garbage dumpsters or beaten to death. Why were they given babies? Why God? I would cry and wonder what I did to make God so mad at me. Then one day, our two oldest boys were pretty much dropped in our lap. An unfit family member had been neglecting them and they were taken by the foster system. Overnight through kinship adoption we became a family of four. The boys were ages two and five at that time, now 10 and 12. The oldest is cognitively impaired (mildly mentally retarded.) I was thrilled with my new family. Eight months later, with no fertility help, I got pregnant and had a beautiful baby boy. I had to wonder...if I had already had "kids of my own" would I have taken the boys. Probably not, God knew to wait until his plan played out. Those boys needed a home and God knew he would use me.
