Indiana Mom Advocates for Major Changes to Foster Care

Sunshine31 and her partner are licensed foster parents in Indiana and cared for two young relatives for nearly two years. The girls have been returned to their birthmother. The foster family is devastated because they know, through other family relatives, that the situation has not changed. Sunshine31 is speaking out to advocate for changes in a broken foster care system.

I am writing my story in hope of finding other families who can relate to the pain of losing their foster children. It hurts to lose them, but it hurts even worse when it is due to neglect of caseworkers and the system, the system in Indiana in my case. They tell you not to become attached and you should be aware that reunification is always the main goal. But, how can you love and care for them the way they deserve and not become attached? I do not have a problem with reunification unless it is not in the best interest of the children.
