waiting to adopt a child
Not Fitting In While Waiting To Adopt A Child
Waiting to adopt a child was a very difficult time in my life. It was hard enough going through over three years of failed attempts to become pregnant. At least during that time, I was doing something. While I was waiting to adopt a child, there was nothing to do except wait for the phone to ring. The wait was excruciating for me.
What made things even worse was that I felt as if I did not fit in anywhere. There was not even a Sunday School class for me at my church. Everything was set up according to stage of life. I was neither a newlywed nor a mother of a young child, so I had nowhere to go. (I do not think hub would have approved of my joining the class for singles!)
Most of my friends were either parents or newlyweds.
Need for Persistence in Adoption
My adopted child and I have been trying to win a radio contest. The radio plays a "secret sound." If you are the 15th caller, you get to guess what the sound is. If you are correct, then you win a bunch of money. If the person is wrong, then more money is added to the kitty for the next person. You get four opportunities a day to try to win.
My son and I have been calling in together. He is so excited about the prospect of winning. He says that he and I will split the money because "Daddy never spends any money, anyhow." However, we have yet to get through, not just as the 15th caller but at all. It seems so futile to even keep trying, but we still try. And who knows? Maybe we will one day be the 15th caller and correctly identify the "secret sound." If we do, maybe I will post my next blog entry from Hawaii.
I can handle the low odds of winning a radio contest, but I am not quite so patient when it comes to the things that matter, like growing my family.
