This guest blog was submitted by Elizabeth Brueseke in response to our contest asking what changes our readers would like to see in the world of domestic or inter-country adoption. Elizabeth and her husband Mike adopted a boy from Guatemala in 2005, after an 18-month-long process. She works as a court-appointed special advocate, a program that assigns volunteers to abuse and neglect cases currently before the St. Joseph Probate Court in South Bend, Ind. As a CASA volunteer, she meets with all parties to a case, and conducts an independent investigation to provide information to the Court on what is in the best interests of the child. This guest blog originally appeared on her family blog, "Resplendent Quetzel".
