Elizabeth and her husband Mike adopted a boy from </i><st1:country-region><st1:place><i>Guatemala</i></st1:place></st1:country-region><i> in 2005, after an 18-month-long process. She works as a court-appointed special advocate, a program that assigns volunteers to abuse and neglect cases currently before the St. Joseph Probate Court in </i><st1:place><st1:city><i>South Bend</i></st1:city><i>, </i><st1:state><i>Ind.</i></st1:state></st1:place><i> As a CASA volunteer, she meets with all parties to a case, and conducts an independent investigation to provide information to the Court on what is in the best interests of the child.
