Guest Blog: "Adoption Doesn’t Make The Past Disappear" by OpenAdoptionMom

OpenAdoptionMom is currently a full time mom by way of three open independent (non agency) adoptions. Each of her children have various levels of contact with their birth families. Change with the level of that openness is always under way as birth parents have married, welcomed other children they parent, or elected to drop out of touch.

Adoption is not some sort of magic wand, that once waived makes the past disappear.

I often hear the term “fresh start’ applied to adoption,

There is a first mother blog out there that I often frequent, I don’t want to link to her here because I do want to respect her personal space on some level. Recently she has had me thinking

Change with the level of that openness is always under way as birth parents have married, welcomed other children they parent, or elected to drop out of touch.

Oh today I did get a real treat!

My order of Oyin products arrived in the mail for my son Carson’s hair. Though we have been using them for awhile I never tire of the great scents and decadent treatments that the Mixtress Jamyla hand prepares for her loyal customers. Woo Wee! You would think the stuff was for my head and not his!

Oyin is in this mom’s opinion, some wonderful all natural hair and skin care, to nourish beautiful afro-locks and smell yummy while doing it.

Faith has written a good basic piece about RAD, and why children react so seemingly negatively to even a parent’s love and care.

Guest Blog: "Doctors Should Not Be Adoption Facilitators" by OpenAdoptionMom

This story out of Fort Smith, Arkansas just goes to show us why doctors, and other non-adoption professionals should not be making adoptive placements.

It seems that a birth mother, Angela Floyd of Crawford county, filed a lawsuit is 2006 naming her former Doctor and seeking damages for invasion of privacy. She was also apparently asking for compensatory and punitive damages. The physician, Dr. Samuel Koenig III, gave her private contact and health information

Guest Blog: "Welcome To Our House" by OpenAdoptionMom

WELCOME to my nutty little corner of this fantastic new adoption website!

We have all been hard at work to make this new site something that will stand out and offer everyone, from every perspective of the adoption experience, a real and valid place to gather, exchange ideas and learn. YOU and your participation are wanted and needed here, so welcome!

I am an adoptive mom to three great little people. Beyond being an adoptive mom, I am also a sibling to two adoptees, and a birth family member- an aunt to four children placed in closed adoptions. I was also raised by two parents who were in a basic,if not legal sense, abandoned and adopted children. All of these things are a huge part of my experience. Being able to talk about all the things that adoption means in my life will be one of the many positives for me with this new house we have created. I can talk about being a birth family member, and I can talk about being an adoptive mom, and I am not limited by those titles alone when I am here.
